Highlights
From 27 April to 12 June 2017, 124,002 suspected cholera cases and 923 deaths (CFR: 0.7%)have been reported across the country from 275 districts in 20 out of the country’s 23 governorates.
The overall case fatality ratio (CFR) is 0.7%, while it is 3.2% among people aged over 60.
Of the total reported cases, 65 709 (53%) are women, while 22 448 (18 %) are children below the age of five.
More than half of the suspected cholera cases have been reported from four governorates: Amanat Al Asimah, Al Hudeideh, Hajjah and Amran.
A total of 391 stool samples from 20 governorates have tested positive for Vibrio Cholerae, serotype Ougawa.
The overall attack rate is 41.8 per 10 000 of population.
In partnership with the Ministry of Health, WHO is co-chairing a cholera task force that brings together UNICEF, OCHA and other partner organizations twice a week to strengthen cholera response activities at the national and governorate levels.
Situation update
A total of 29 562 suspected cholera cases including 172 associated deaths have been reported during the period 5 June to 11 June 2017 compared to 31 616 cases and 180 deaths that were reported during the period 29 May 2017 to 4 June 2017. The daily average number of cases was 4 223 cases per day indicating a slight decrease in comparison to the previous seven-day period (4 516 cases per day).
Almahara governorate reported its first cholera cases during the last seven days (4-11 June) with a total of 46 suspected cases including one confirmed cholera case. This takes the number of affected governorates to 20 (out of 23).
Six new districts reported their first suspected cholera cases during the period 4-11 June 2017 compared to eight new districts during the previous seven days (29 May – 4 June).
